It works well for me as it is, because it asks questions - Why is nobody there? Who was there a few minutes ago? Who is approaching out of sight of the camera? What are the dark shapes in the background? Is it safe to walk along the path?

Adding a child in a bright coloured coat or a couple walking romantically would provide an answer. Reassuring and safe rather than disturbing and dangerous. Still a valid picture, but a very different one. No right, no wrong, just different.

Keep taking 'em like this, I like questions!

Excellent point Steve. How about a bicycle abandoned somewhere in the pool of light? That gives questions AND focus.

As is is good for me. However another version with a figure just visible leaving (or maybe entering) the distant spot of light would also be good IMO providing further mystery rather than necessarily being dark.

I'm all for (apparent) emptiness, so this works just fine for me. Plenty of space for imagination, interpretation, contemplation... Nice one, Gareth.

Now I do really like this image.
Maybe the peacefulness of it--with an expectation of a possible otherwise. Just allowing for reality to be what it is.

Think I like this more without the 3rd pole light out to the left. Looks to help reinforce the leading lines of the first two.

Cracking image as is, but as has already been suggested, added dimensions are definitely an option for this,
I think John is on the right track in the sense that something completely out of place would work.

Might be worth try a few out just to see,
Think they need to be big enough to be recognisable like an open umbrella or a shopping trolley , dining chair, car seat whatever.

I showed this to an artist friend today. He thought it doesn't need anything else in it, it's very good as it is.
