For 'a genre I'm not comfortable with.' these are excellent. It's the reflection you've created that appeals. The black background is intensely black which adds to the effect.

Technically excellent and composition spot on.
The last one is my favourite. Unfortunately, the cream in the first two doesn't work for me. I think it's because it doesn't look like it has been poured on in preparation for being eaten, so what's the message? Am I missing something?

Not necessarily Steve, I did pour the cream over both the cake and the fruit pie during the 4 second exposure ish on both, I didn't like the effect particularly with the reflection, so I painted them out. SOOC version as below.

Hmmm... I can see why you got rid of the stream of cream and its reflection, it doesn't fit. But I do like the softness of the edges of the flows and pools of cream. It hints at motion and is good foil for the static sharpness of the cake (pie? tart? ).
