Aftermarket strap recommendations?

I'm looking to get a new strap for my K20D: I need something a bit longer (would like to put the camera across myself like a shoulder bag, rather than round my neck) and more comfortable with weight (Sigma 10-20 and a flashgun already makes it quite portly, and I've just ordered an f2.8 telezoom ).

Could anyone suggest a suitable candidate? I don't want one of the ones that attaches to the tripod mount (my Redsnapper QRP lives on the body for ease of tripod use and also as a nice grip), but other than that I've no real idea.

I can strongly recommend the Optech Pro link I can carry two very large and heavy SLR/Lens/Grip combos all day without significant discomfort.

Neil - that uses the tripod point, which is not what MrC wants. he has a QR plate permanently attached to the camera so that it no use to him.

I have an Optech strap too. It is comfortable, but a tad short for me - I can't wear it cross body which I would quite like to do. I may get a couple of their shorter straps with the plastic release things on them to lengthen it. I also have their bi-cam harness which I use with the camera, and is very comfortable.
Optech are on my list for Wednesday .

There are other straps similar to the OpTech ones available if you do a search. Not sure how long any of them are.

Very comfortable, I can wear it across my chest, it all depends how long your back is, and if you have anything in the way

Actually that highlight a problem with straps. They are always too long to sit on the shoulder and too short to go round the neck or cross body.

I want a strap with some form of easy way to shorten/extend, perhaps some sort of gravity-fed spool. Hmm, must get patent-pending on it soon!

I've up-graded my Pro strap to this spec, by buying their System Connectors Sling Strap kit (1301242), but haven't tried it out yet. The idea is the camera hangs by your hip and can be brought up to the eye quickly and securely. Uses existing camera strap connections so (like me) you can leave your tripod adapter in place on the camera base.

OpTech say this Sling Strap kit converts most of their straps into an over-the-shoulder sling.

OpTech for me too. The adverts said it would make your camera feel lighter. I thought "rubbish" but it looks a good strap so bought it anyway.

Result..... it makes the camera feel lighter !

I use the Op/Tech across my chest. My problem isn't that my camera is portly but rather I am portly. Some would say fat. It's comfortable and I like being able to move my camera to ride in front of my stomache, at my side, or behind me depending on the conditions. For me, I wish Op/Tech made a strap a few inches longer.

I've tried other strps that were highly recommended and always came back. I have tried the new fad, the sling straps, but I've seen a few tourists here using them and they didn't appeal to me.

You should take a run up to Calumet in Maryhill, they have a few including the Sun sniper one which I couldn't make up my mind about.

Patrickt have a look at the link from JohnX - it looks the ideal solution to the portly photographer/cross body strap problem. Which is why I'm interested in it too .
