AF140C Ringflash Trigger voltage

Can anyone tell me what it is and if it is safe for a K20?

I think it's reasonably safe to say that ALL Pentax flashes are safe to use on ALL Pentax SLR's, film and digital.

Some functionality is lost with certain combinations however, and there are too many possible combinations to list them all here. Not that I've tried them all, but quite a few.

HE actually told me that has "only used it twice". Ok - that says it is not high enough to cause a catastrophic failure, but id did not seem to me to be proof that there there was no potential long term problem.

I'm surprised to hear that John - is there no maximum safe voltage on the K20?

Of course there is Oggy, but no Pentax flash will exceed it.

High trigger voltages are usually found in very old flashes from mostly independent makers.

Just to clarify, there are no issues with this particular Pentax ring flash for any of the Pentax cameras. I'm not sure why you are so doubtful about it Oggy, after all it's a modern flash unit from the elctronic era.

It's been used on K10D and K20D cameras since it was new and since then it went to Jack and he's used it twice.

The oldest flashes I have used on several Pentax DSLR's are probably the AF160, AF240T, AF280T and the AF400T. The latter 2 have analogue interfaces to the hot shoe, very old-tech. Current flashes from, I don't know when, use a digital interface, including the AF140FC that Jack has now sold.

I had one and got some great images from it and my *istD, *istDS, K10D, K20D. I only sold mine when I got the AF160FC.

The 'High Trigger Voltage' phobia is only really relevant to third party makers like Vivitar etc. And only then, applies to there older kit.

I would just like to confirm that I have only used this ring flash twice but not 2 flashes I flashed a bit more than 2 and haven't used it since.

One of the reasons I am selling all my kit is I am to busy with other things and don't use what I have.

John - the reason I am "doubtful" is that I do not have your encyclopaedic knowledge of photographic equipment, but I do know a bit about electronics and I know some flashes can hurt some cameras. If I do not know something I try to find out, preferably in a non destructive manor.

Jack - your reasons for selling are largely irrelevant to me. I was simply trying to find out if it was fully suitable for my camera and you did not give me that assurance.
