Hi Joe,

your profile seems to indicate you're having a nightmare with lenses although your gallery looks fine.

If camera or lens isn't doing what it should then surely it's a problem for the retailer. Until joining this Forum I'd never heard of such problems. I've asked pro friends of many years experience about this trend and they are quite bemused having in many years had no such problems. Mind you most of them use manual focus much of the time!

What are you trying to shoot, Redbus? And with which body? I presume you have experimented with the in-camera focus adjustment?

In most cases, stopping down a little will allow DOF to take care of minor focus problems, but if you are shooting wide-open it's another matter.

The problem SHOULD be consistent, so with some practice you will be able to anticipate where the focus will be, and adjust accordingly. But it shouldn't be necessary to go to such lengths. As Bill B says, you should consult the retailer.

ok peeps looks like it,s sorted as usual in most cases like this user error . set the test up again so it was more accurate this time i.e measured 45 degree for chart, measured height to to focus line ,measured camera height. still a discrepancy between tele and wide but as you say this could be down to being wide open. focus point/line on chart is in focus both ends so all is well with the world again ...... until next time!
thanks for your input
