I got my hands on my AF 540 on June 18 and have been very pleased with until yesterday. Okay, it may under expose a little in PTTL mode but I can live with that. The wireless and HS modes are great and I have been very happy with it and found it easy to use.
Used it yesterday morning without a problem. Switched it on in he afternoon and it made a strange whining noise and the display did not come on so I switched it off straight away and checked everything was as it should be and tried again. Still blank display and whining noise (not the zoom motor) so I changed the batteries for a freshly charged set and this made no difference.
I have read somewhere that the zoom function can get stuck and that a firm knock can free it so I tried this and that made no difference either. So, this morning I packed it up and posted it off to Pentax UK Service.
So I am very annoyed that MY flash has broken after about 6 weeks and 1000 or so flashes but I guess it happens!
Can anyone tell me that Pentax UK Service are the best repairers out there and that they will return it as good as new in just one or two weeks or am I going to be disappointed again? I tried to phone them before sending it but got fed up not getting an answerer or a recorded message saying their voice mail box was full – not a good sign!
Dave.
