I have a vivitar Series 1 70-210 f2.8 A zoom which is in perfect condition (and which I love). I have an interested buyer but I'm not really sure what price I should ask?
Any advice please?

It depends on which version you have. You can check this out here http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm

SMC PKA 70-210 F4 zooms typically have been selling for between £80 and £100 on Ebay.

I would not expect the Vivitar to reach that, but if you have version 3 with a PKA mount by Komine then maybe £50 - 60.

As always the item is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it

As this is a f/2.8 lens I would expect it to fetch more. I recently ebayed a Tokina 80-200 f/2.8 PK (not A) mount for around £80. I would think a PKA mount version might sell for 50% more, as it's more useful when used with the K10D.

This lens is not a constant F/2.8, the range is from 2.8 - 4.0. Silly prices on Ebay, so who knows.

Is this Vivitar a consant F2.8 or F2.8-F4?

There don't appear to be any Pentax fit versions on Ebay at the moment however there is a Canon FD fit F2.8-4 version at a buy-it-now of £45. A Pentax version, with it's DSLR useability, might make more however I reckon it'd take a really good listing for it to make over £50.

I have been wrong before however and Ebay prices are quite variable at present! I was watching a Porst 55mm F1.2 listing in the US which yesterday (I've got one and was interested to see what it'd make) and was rather surprised when it finally sold for just under £100 (I bought mine for £25 a year or so back).

As far as I know, if it is PKA then it is f/2.8 -4.0. Version 3 made by Komine is the one to have, versions 4 and 5 were considered inferior.

I have a PK mount version 2, which is a constant f3.5. in someways I prefer it to my SMC 70-210 F/4.0, but overall the Pentax is superior.
