Lot of equipment upgrades this year

New printer Epson R2880 bought
Second dell 22 ultra sharp for the studio bought
New K5 buying next week

But more importantly a new computer for the studio, I am sick of working on a laptop as I'm having to do twice the work on a images when I get home as this is where the printer is and my main computer a old dell dimensions c521 and it's running xp with cs3

I will be taking the old dell to the studio and replacing the home computer with a new one

But witch one to go for ?????????????????

what do you think of this Computer

HP's RRP for this box is £380 inc VAT. It doesn't seem to have a DVI video connector, only VGA.

Other than that, it looks well specified and should serve you well.

Personally, I'd prefer a machine with at least 2 x HDD's in RAID 1 to give some redundancy in case of HDD failure.

Buy the best you can afford that suits today's needs and has some excess capacity for the future.

A machine with an Intel i5 CPU, at least 4Gb RAM with enough free slots for 8Gb RAM), 2 x HDD's in RAID 1, Win 7 x64, plenty of USB ports (8 min.)would be my minimum spec. if I were buying now.

It depends entirely on your budget really.

Looks a great machine, higher spec than mine and I presume higher than your current pc, which I assume is quite serviceable. Can't really see the point in paying more. People will tell you you need to spend a grand on a pc. That's rubbish. Unless you are editing a lot of 1020p video, you could probably get away with a relatively cheap general purpose desktop.

Why not use the same laptop for both at home and the studio. The portability will save duplication of work?

Why not just get an external big Monitor for the laptop ?

My advice is to get one with physical space inside the case and sufficient motherboard connections for at least four hard disks, and the capability to run these in a RAID configuration.

SATA III should also come in handy in the years to come.

These guys really know their stuff. They've been doing computer
fairs in the North since the fairs started. I would imagine that
they would do a custom job as well if you want. Click on

Used to be called "Bits, Butts and Bytes" hence the 3B

I've bought loads of parts off them and never had any problems
with refunds on the very rare faulty item and they
always answer my emails.

Edit: It looks like only the FULL Systems come with an OS.
On the Bare Bones ones it's £78 Extra for 32 or 64 bit W7

I am so appreciative for all the good and bad advice given on this subject and I know it's down to personal choice at the end of the day But I think I will go with Algernon advice (the 3 B's)
