Advice about filters

Hello all. The other day I used a CPL filter on my DA* 16-50. The CPL was screwed on top of a UV filter which resulted in quite a bit of vignetting. I read somewhere about thinner filters. Are they supposed to cut out the vignetting? And which one would you recommend I buy. I am sure you all know that the lens needs a 77mm filter.

take the uv filter OFF before you put the cpl on....

if it still vignettes b+w makes a good slim cpl.

By using two filters together you've put four potentially reflective surfaces in front of your lens as well as causing vignetting.

Don hit it on the nail. At the wide end of the range, double or triple stacked filters will cause vignetting. A CPL is in effect 2 filters combined in a single mount. I've ruined many a film or slide shot with a 28mm lens because I didn't remove the skylight filter first.

Might be better to use Cokin P series (or similar, such as Lee if your budget stretches that far) with a slim holder for wider angle lenses. Also, can change the adaptor to suit the filter thread of your lenses, so don't have to buy more than one copy of the filter.

I'm using the normal CPL B+W Käsemann filter on my DA*16-50 without vignetting so only use the CPL and it should be alright.
It's btw never wise to stack filters it really degrades the image quality and might effect even the operations of the AF system.
