I am on record here stating that my favourite "walkabout" is my 70-300 FAJ 4.5~5.8 AL as it is light , fast enough for me and I think a great lens under £100.
My second choice is my Sigma 28-300 - bit heavy maybe but again a great all round lens and not overly expensive.
As a pocket lens the 18-55 II DA AL is the only "modern" short zoom I have and easy to carry with great results - IMHO .
I also like to take my Pentax A zoom 3.5~4.5 Macro as an alternative for those unplanned moments.
Hope that helps - enjoy the holiday

I would have thought your 18-250 covers most eventualities

I asked a similar question and sold my 50-200mm & 70-300mm then bought a 55-300mm from this forum.
So I now have the kit 18-55mm & 55-300mm to use as "normal" lenses and a 50mm f1.7 "A" type that I use for dedicated shots.
I am saving for a 16-45mm (missed the one mentioned here ) never mind will keep saving.
Hope this helps you.

I have a choice of several short zooms and a 90mm Tamron macro. Have just been using my Pentax F 24-50mm zoom which is a great little lens for most situations but it is the longer zooms that I need to sort. Have also a 600mm mirror lens. Spoilt for choice, really. I have read and seen work with the 55-300 and it interests me. Could it be that the grass is greener.
The 18-250 does not impress me because it needs to be used in the auto mode and I do most manual, but to be fair I have not given it much use and would be grateful for any comments by those who know this lens.

The last one I have bought as a walk about for my coming N. Ireland holiday and will probably move this on, but I realistically only need one of these lens, but which one?
My real preference would be to move them all on and go for the Pentax 55-300 but would that be a sensible move? any thoughts, please.
