Add a Photo to a Post

Hi,

I've tried every which way but loose to add a flickr photo to a post, totally without success.

The add a photo Sticky no longer works as flickr have changed the share layout so it's no longer possible to grab the photo url as described in the sticky.

Will someone please be kind enough to provide my tired 78 year old brain with a step by step?

My eternal gratitude in anticipation,

Regards,
Roy

I'll have a go... In flickr, when you are on the flickr page for the photo you want to add into the post, there are a couple of boxes just above the top left of the picture. One says 'actions' and has a drop down menu when you click on the down arrow within it, the other has icons for email, facebook, twitter (or something like that) and also has a down arrow. Click on that down arrow in that second box and you can now select the photo url. There is a load of text in the selectable box and I find I generally am forced to select it all. The ONLY bit of the text you need, however, is the html address, which is a part of the text string in inverted commas, and the one which ends in '.jpg'.

Once you have that address you then need to paste it into the post here on the forum. At the place where you wish the pic to appear, click the 'image' button below the text box and some text which looks a bit like this will appear:

[img][img]

(although the second square brackets will also have a backslash in it I think).

Paste the address you got from flickr between the two sets of square bracketted text and voila! now when you hit 'preview comment' or 'preview topic' your selected flickr picture should appear.

Last thing to note is that in flickr you can pick up a url for a number of different sizes of picture. I normally go for the one called 'medium 640' as it fits quite well into the forum here. If you pick a large size I think the forum resizes it downwards in any case.

Hope that helps...

Hi Mat,

I really appreciate your help, but,

The "other" having icons for email,Facebook, Twitter and a tiny down arrow labelled "More ways to share" (that appears when the mouse arrow is rested upon it) ?

This is what I get:http://www.flickr.com/photos/60622179@N08/5695200281/
or the short URL: http://flic.kr/p/9FgoCi

This doesn't cut it?

No matter what I try, it just doesn't work

Kind regards,
Roy

I think you're nearly there. You're correct that when you float the cursor over the down arrow it says 'more ways to share'... when you click on it it brings up a dialogue box in which one of the bold headings is 'grab the html/BBCode'.

Under that heading is a text box with a load of text in it which seems to include a couple of web addresses amongst a whole load of other text and symbology...

Buried within that little lot (and it may be in blue on the flickr page) is the address you will need for the pic, taking one of my pics on flickr as an example:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5141/5669973731_c35de92a08_z.jpg

(i.e. the link address which ends in '.jpg')

If i just take that and paste it between the square bracketted text which appears when I hit the image button below the text box here on the forum then the pic should appear when the post is finally submitted.

therefore in the text box here I would get a line which looks like:

[ig]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5141/5669973731_c35de92a08_z.jpg[ig]

(except that the text in the square brackets would say 'img' instead of 'ig' and the one at the end would also have a backslash in it. i have just left it out because otherwise all you will see here is the picture...)

When I do then preview the comment to check the pic is there (using the preview button below the text box here on the forum), the picture will appear:

so now doing it for real... voila:

Not sure if this is the most efficient way of doing it but it works for me. Flickr have changed their pages in this respect recently and it's a lot less straightforward to do this now than it used to be...

Hope that helps

Most of the time you're able to right click on the image and select the option "Copy Image Adress" that does the trick as well.
