Adapter ring

Forgive me if this has been posted before but I seem to recall an adapter ring that you could attach to say the front of a prime lens and then reverse attach another lens to the same adapter. The advantage was that you retained the coupling on the first lens but gained macro by reversing the second lens. Or am I getting mixed up?

Yup, like this you mean? I haven't tried it myself but others have including Clarky and Anvh.

I have one ring which works that way although I don't know the proper name for it..., nor where it came from I'm afraid (useless I am). It's a metal ring with a 49mm thread one side and a 52mm thread the other so I can (for example) screw it into the filter thread of my 50-200mm lens and then reverse a prime 50mm lens on the front of it. It makes for good magnification but you need to get really close to the subject and give some decent support to the whole thing because it ends up bit weighty. Think it would work better as you suggest with two prime lenses...

Thats it exactly, found out they are called macro couplers. About a fiver to buy I think. Will give it a go I think.
