ACR 3.7 now supports K10D PEF and

Adobe finally released Camera Raw 3.7. So not only do the defaults match up properly with K10D DNG fies, it can read the PEF's as well.

Thank you gentlemen. It wasn't until I updated ACR and imported my K10D pefs to the Adobe browser that I use to organise and catalogue my pictures that I realised just how many shots I have taken with the K10D already!

Since CS2 has been opening the DNG files fine, can anyone tell me why I might want to shoot PEF now with the update?

Because PEF files are about 9Mb, while the DNG are around 16Mb. So you'll get more on a card

It is lossless Huffman encoding. In other words - there is NO image difference between the DNG and PEF.

FWIW, Canon use a two pass Huffman encoding and so their RAW files are even smaller. The pro Nikons and Pentax use single pass. Note that some of the consumer Nikons use lossy compression in their RAW (by converting to a logarithmic 8-bit from the linear 12-bit). You can see the Huffman tree in the dcraw source code
