Is there no charger supplied with the camera? It does seem to increasingly be the case.
You could try eBay and there are suppliers there of genuine chargers at lower prices.
Some cheap chargers may not have overcharge protection or sensor ability to know when the battery is optimally charged. Unfortunately there's no reliable way of knowing which ones are good or bad.

No, the camera didn't come with a charger.
Apparently I used the wrong name. It is a
Pentax K-AC129 adapter that I was seeking.

The X-5 uses AA batteries. There'll be plenty of chargers and rechargeable batteries available online, or if you get into NY, try Adorama or B&H. They'll also sell online.

Pentax AC adapters are always expensive probably because there isn't much demand for them

The Pentax K-AC129 adapter allows the camera to run without batteries whilst plugged into the mains electricity. Useful if you're inside and not moving around - studio work for example- but it won't recharge batteries in the camera.
What sort of photography would you be hoping to use it for?

True John, That's why I don't want to spend $60 for it. It could have a use at weddings, meetings etc. where you don't want to be turning the camera on and off to save the batteries.
B&H, a store in NY, is selling Pentax K-AC63U AC Adapter Kit for Pentax Optio , for $10. It probably would work with the X-5 but more than likely the plug is different. Maybe someone here would know if they are compatible

I have a Omron heart meter that has a charger. It is 6v @ 500ma. It seems to work OK with the X-5. The only problem may be that the current may not be sufficient but it works. It even seems to be charging the batteries although I didn't leave it on long enough to see.
