Abstract Smoke Images

I am going to try taking some pictures of abstract smoke images. I have done a little bit of research and think I know what I'm doing (famous last words) but cannot find any info on which lens would be best to use.

You can see my lens line-up in my profile below.

Would I be better off using the DA 35mm Macro or the FA 50mm as this is my sharpest lens ?
Not sure if sharpness will be to much of an issue as I'll be stopping down to probably f8 or lower.
Or should I just stick to my DA 17-70mm ?

You may want to speak to Amin (aminstar) he was/is doing that sort of photos - check photos in his portfolio.

Jason, I was inspired by Amin's smoke art and gave it a try myself.
Tried a few lenses but settled on my smc a 50mm.
But anything around the 50mm mark should be fine.

Give it a try with the 17-70mm, cos as you say it'll be down at f8.

pick one experiment, and take notes.
then pick another.
repeat until you have nothing left to play with.

following somebody else's method, should yield predictable results, but trying out different things, could have more interesting results.
