Great thread Hefty, I've just got hold of an MX and am looking forward to using it, after the task of cleaning etc.

Good luck with the cleaning. When you're getting the old foam seals out don't wear your best clothes (certainly nothing white!) as the little bits of corroded foam go everywhere and stick to everything. Make sure you have good stocks of cotton buds, tooth picks and lighter fluid and remember that patience is the key. Other than that it's all pretty straightforward so post some pictures when you've done.

Cheers for the advice, it does need new seals (already on order) but when I started cleaning my 'bargain' started to unravel!Seems a previous owner had glued the flash shoe together. It looked pretty when it disintegrated into dust, oh well, I'll try and track another down. apart from that so far so good.

I've got a tatty and dented top plate with a reasonable flash shoe still attached to it - if you want it then send me a PM and we'll sort something out.

Congrats!

I've revived 3 Spotmatics and a Spotmatic F with lightseals etc.

It sure is a great feeling to use these older clockwork gems and see the results, isn't it?

The MX is a fine example of Asahi's quality.

Enjoy.

Excellent shots! Pretty safe to say you didn't get any light leaks then?

And the MX complements the bike quite nicely!

I just aquired an ME Super as part of a bundle with some lenses I was after ( Pentax-M 50/1.7 and Tokina RMC 24/2.8 ) that appears to be in decent condition although it needs a clean.

Does anybody have a film recommendaton for twighlight city street shooting or bright english winter's day (colour and B&W)?

Can anybody recommend a good place (mail order or North West England) to buy and process film?

Richard

Try ebay for film. There are some amazing bargains on just out dated Fuji Film (£22 for 50 rolls of colour 400asa film) and I have had good results with Tesco recently for processing - clean, punchy prints and clean negs. Very cheap (£3.50 for 24 prints and CD. The scanning is not too great on the CD).

Don't know about twilight shooting as I would use my K10D for low(ish) light work these days, but for the bright winter's day I still think the Fuji Reala 100 takes some beating - gorgeous colours!

Black and white work isn't really my forte either, but from past experience I always found Ilford Delta to work to my liking.

I get all my processing done at Snappy Snaps who have branches in Chester and Stockport. The one in Aylesbury (that I use) does a fantastic job - much better than many mail order "specialists" who have charged me considerably more money in the past!

My only (minor) quibble with Snappy Snaps is that they only sell Kodak film which I'm not really keen on; as smc says above there are good deals on eBay or even places like 7dayshop.com if you hunt around.

Good luck with the ME Super.
