About AA battery voltage

I have a funny little dilemma now. It is everywhere said that Pentax doesn't recommend the use of R-CRV3 batteries, since their power is up to 3.7V instead of needed 3V. Now, i have rechargeable AA batteries (Duracell 2650), which after full charging have 1.4V instead of 1.2V. What should i do? Can i use them in my K100D or not? Or should i somehow discharge them to 1.2V?


I use slow (200mAh) individually controlled charger, checked the battery voltage with voltmeter.

I quote from the new Magic Lantern Guide on the K100D/K110D:

"...two CR-V3, four Lithium AA batteries, or four AA rechargeable NiMH batteries. Due to their voltage characteristics, oxyride and rechargeable CR-V3 are not recommended, because they can cause the camera to malfunction."

The cameras are shipped with Alkaline cells that are 1.5v so I wouldn't worry as long as you are within the guidlines given above.

as a general rule, less voltage than intended is unlikely to do any damage, it just might not work at all. If you think about it, if 1.2V could damage your camera then it would blow up the first time the Alkaline cells ran down a bit.

This is why 1.2V rechargeables are ok to use in devices designed for 1.5V alkaline cells.
