A Wren at Last!

The garden wrens are usually too timid to photograph, hiding in vegetation and only appearing in full view for a couple of seconds before disappearing again. But this one decided to launch into full-throated song from a prominent perch about 15ft above ground while I was working in the garden. It even had the decency to sing long enough for me to rush indoors, grab the camera (K3 with DA300mm + 1.4TC attached currently always on standby!) and get a couple of quick shots. After the second shot, it stopped singing and flew off.

It really was a matter of "f5.6 and be there!" (not enough time to change to f8...:wink. Good light, good perch, and enough time to get the camera - I doubt if it will happen again in the garden.

Great shot Lubbyman, pose and isolation from the background . I have a pair of wrens in the back garden and so far they have defeated my efforts for a good photo.

Super shot. Just one of the bird would be nice but this one even performed for you. Today I was photographing wild garlic along the local stream when a wren perched just 6 feet from me and launched into song. The Takumar 135 on a K1 on a geared head tripod almost flat to the ground wasn't a lot of use!
