A Very Inconvenient truth

I have often wondered why a forum apparently devoted to all things photographic, with special emphasis on Pentax, should give such prominence to a supposedly factual program by a less than (IMHO) creditable US politician on man's allegedly undeniable cause of Global Warming. I wonder if the Great Global Warming Swindle will receive such a permanent slot at the head of this forum

The Great Global Warming Swindle shown on Channel 4 last night represents a very Inconvenient Truth to those who bought into the original theory of man-kind created global warming. The basis of the original story has been exposed many times for its convenient forgetfulness of certain facts that go against the argument, so I do not suppose the latest exposure will do much to change the views of who have been seduced by the anti carbon lobby.

Even so, I recommend it to those who did not catch it last night. It is to be repeated though I do not at present know when.

For my money, the real message comes in the last few minutes as the impact of the current environmental lobby on the poorer developing nations is revealed. If you want to be a conspiracy theorist, there is something to really get your teeth into. Just ask yourself when did a government (any government) last tell the truth about anything, then ask who you really believe - a politically constructed IPCC specifically charged (IMHO ) with looking into the problem of man made global warming or a group of individual scientists taking on a lobby that has the political clout to even make the US change direction. Even the IPCC report has been shown to have been doctored between its "final agreed form" and the published version - but don't let me spoil it for you. Watch and consider the evidence.

By the way, neither I, nor the programme, is arguing about Climate Change, merely about the causes thereof. Nor is there any argument against the very sensible husbanding of finite resources. The actual subject of CC is another issue altogether.

Happy Viewing

What worries me far more is the many ways in which we are poluting the environment and destroying habitat.

It now looks quite likely that in my life-time the rhinoceros, the elephant, the chimpanzee, the gorilla, the orangutan, and the tiger (to name just a few) will cease to exist in the wild. And the great whales will cease altogether.

I think that is a terrible indictment of humanity.

Spot on George, I couldn't agree more!

I was deeply struck by that sentiment some years ago when I learned of a species of sea cow that is now extinct.
These peaceful and totally inoffensive creatures had lived in the Indonesian seas (I think) for many thousands of years and were an easy target for western hunters.
I think it was in the 16th or 17th century that these animals were discovered by westerners so you can perhaps excuse their ignorance but within just 25 years of their discovery, that particular species was hunted to extinction.

As for global-warming etc., I didn't see the programme and I believe that whatever we do must have an impact. However, the planet's climate goes through natural cycles and there are naturally occuring periods of geological instability. These result in earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and forest fires etc. which can pump more pollutants into the atmosphere than mankind has done since the industrial revolution.

We should certainly all do our bit to help preserve our natural resources but to suggest that we can 'repair' the damage, let alone reverse it, is quite preposterous.
The planet is a living organism and will heal itself, we will simply have to adapt to whatever changes we are faced with.

Human beings are the only species that actively seek to change the environment, we explore, create and destroy - it's in our nature!
We evolved naturally on this planet, the proof is obvious because we not only have much in common with other primates, we are even genetically similar to daffodils - so whatever choices we make can be considered as part of 'Mother Nature's grand design'.
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

Sounds like another recent dodgy dossier I can think of!

I missed the program therefore I can't comment on it's content or message, but one thing that always strikes me when the greens and the politico's start their tirades about how mankind is responsible for climate change are statements like.... it's the hottest day recorded since 1930 or 1885....or this bit of land hasn't been flooded since before the great war.....etc.......Duh!! Well it's happened before, does that not say something?

Mankind destroying earth’s habitat's is a very different story though.
Cheers

Agreed. The romans grew mediterranean varieties of grape when they were here.. IIRC, that was one of the reasons for coming.. certainly in England there wasn't really a great deal of complaint about them being here.
