A swan.. from Liam.. again..

Hi all,

I went out yesterday to take some Autumnal pictures and I'll sort out a couple to post later, but we went to a woodland lake just down the road and I took this..

Apart from cropping the height slightly, (portrait tends to look taller on the screen than it should) this is how it came out. For some reason I really like it.. hope you do as well,..

Lovely colours Liam - nice, graphic shot. The fill flash has really helped give the image a bit of sparkle, but the swan looks a bit evil.

Great image.

Colours well balanced, and good composition. Excellent depth of field effect. I would however make the swan's eye either brown or brownish yellow. If you make it black, it disappears into the rest of his face, but brown or deep amber distinguishes it while keeping it less "evil".

I like the blues and yellows...works as a color composition if you ask me.

Beutiful study in shape and color, in addition to a nice photo of a swan!

Thanks for the comments everyone.. it was the simplicity that I liked.. and the proportions.

Re: the eye.. I might do something with it, but I like evil.. As a swan, it perhaps doesn't work, but it does make a focal point as t'were.

Mean looking critter, keep the red eye, and tattoo 666 on its head as well! that will warn the kiddies to stay clear of it if they go to feed the ducks.

What I want to know is why is the water blue? whenever I take pics of swans, ducks, geese, etc etc I always get black water.

I don't know about the water.. I just looked at the others from the day, and there was just this and one other shot of the same swan taken at the same time. All the others are, as you say, a range of browns, greens and greys. It was a bright sunny day though, and the sun would have been at about 10 o'clock to the direction I was facing, so perhaps it was just the angle of the reflection from the sky (which is why water is blue anyway) that caught at the right angle. Translates as DUNNO..
