I saw his exhibition at the Bradford Film and Photography museum many years ago, he had both floors and displayed his war photography on one and landscapes on the other.

I think I spent all day in there and went around in circles. There was something new to notice every lap.

Me too.

"people rolled over by a tank so they look like a carpet" then he said about how he is surrounded by 6500 photographs in his house and he feel he lives in an insane asylum.

He sounded to me like he could be a very depressed person, who'd blame him though.

I work only a 2 minute walk from the Imperial war museum north. This is part of the building round the back which overlooks Salford Quays. It's a facinating building, constructed as if from giant brolen pieces of a globe. The architect said it was supposed to represent the world in conflict.

On a light note, though. I did chuckle at his reference to digital photography.
When asked about DSLRs he said something like, "colour is a fruit salad, but B&W is the main course"
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

I live close to the area where McCullin grew up. He describes it very well in his autobiography. Unreasonable behaviour. (A great read) It's still pretty rough, but not quite as bad it was, back then.

I went to an exhibition of his, at the Barbican a few years ago. - A great man.

Thanks so much for posting this. Would have missed it otherwise.

I rememeber the original publication of lots of his pictures and saw the Nikon with the bullet dinge when it was in Bradford.

Powerful stuff.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Very moving images, it takes a very special person to place themselves in a situation like that, and still see goodness in the world.

I went this lunchtime. Too much to absorb in the short time I had. As I suspected they don't allow you to take photographs inside the exhibition, but you can elsewhere in the Museum.
