Nice close-ups, and the leaf and branch remind me of a set I did a while back in the woods where I was setting about -3.0 stops compensation to really pull down the blacks and bring out the deep tones. It's worked beautifully here, I like the richness of colours and clear focus. The fly is an impressive macro also, and allowing the out of focus space around was a good choice I think.

Most impressive. I really must get one of these. "Red" is particularly nice
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

thanks for the comments. had been pondering on one of these lenses for a while David as i had read quite a few favourable reports on it so just a matter of winning one on ebay at a reasonable price. got it for £69.99 and the PK/A adaptor on a BIN at £35 , have seen silly prices for some of those, the lens came complete with hood and caps which a lot don't. apparently a 45mm tube attached would make it 1:1 but i find hand holding this as it is enough of a challenge. the fly was sunning itself on our fence and was about 1/4" long, the other shots were taken at our local National Nature Reserve, the cows fertilising it so all the orchids will be there next year. Nigel i just kept adjusting the shutter speed until i had near enough what i wanted using the preview facility before taking a couple of shots, the DOF on the fly was tricky as my hands are not the steadiest these days,so i was happy with that.
