A flower and a torch

So I decided to experiment with these dried flowers and an LED torch in a darkened room. The first shot is what I had in my mind, with the light shining from below and the flower looking translucent. The only thing that is not right is the blown area at the bottom. The second shot was taken with a white handkerchief wrapped around the light to make it more diffuse. I feel this is rather boring. So I have 2 questions:
1. Would you leave the first shot as it is?
2. If the answer to Q 1 is 'No' then how can I avoid the blown area?
Cheers.

Naim, I think the second one is actually better, but I can see what you mean by having the light shining through the translucent flower. The suggestion I would have to avoid the blown area is to either use a weaker light with an appropriate exposure, or to knock the exposure down a stop or so and adjust in post processing. You should be able to get an acceptable result with the ight shining through the petals with no blown area.

Naim, could your light source not be moved back & under so that the light still shines though but avoids bouncing off that front "facet" of the flower?
With the continuous light, you can at least see the effect as the light is moved.

Agree with coker, I'm pretty sure that if the light was moved towards the back of the flower it would shine through giving you the desired effect and a great shot I believe

Thanks chaps. I couldn't really go too far back because the flower is connected to the branch but I'll have another go later today and post the results.
Cheers.
