A few more from Venice

During our long weekend in Venice I managed to shoot two rolls of 135mm Ektar 100, one roll of 120 Ektar 100, one roll of 135mm Rollei Retro 80 and one roll of 120 Adox CHS 50 Art, as well as 316 digital images (although many of those are bracketed versions of the same image). The films are in the post to be developed, and I am working on some of the digital ones. Here is a small (you'll be glad to know!) selection. The biggest problem with Venice is that there have been so many photographs taken over the years, clichés are hard to avoid. All these were shot with my K20D.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

it's funny to see "pov" of an outsider for an italian city!

did you like it?

We loved it. Venice is very expensive, heaving with tourists and has a terrible graffiti problem but is also beautiful, fun and a delight to explore.

Best wishes, Kris.

The lamppost shot is definitely the pick of the 3 for me. The tones in that shot are just lovely, really nice and I also like that its 95% mono with a hint of colour in the lamppost glass and blue boats.

Thanks Gareth.

I like that fact these images don't scream Venice and typical tourist shots, which I think many of us here would probably do!

I have plenty of those too!

This is lovely, why didn't you post it with the above : !

I didn't want to flood the thread with too many images. I'm glad you like it. Some of these have already been entered to the PPG...

Best wishes, Kris.

A great selection, Kris. Good time of year to explore, I reckon. I like the shots with mixed lighting, they're different and not derivative. The red bench shot is powerful as well. For some reason I'm drawn more to the colour shots, which is unusual for me. A place I'd love to visit some day.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I love the alleyway scenes, off the beaten track. The lampost with hazy view is very attractive and photographically superb but its the sort of pictures many photographers try for when they visit Venice. They don't always pull it off as well as this though.

Thanks David. I was trying for something a little different with my alleys although I had to get up at 5am to be able to photograph them empty! I was luckily with the light with the first image, and the 50-135mm excels at that type of image but I agree with you, it has been done before!

Best wishes, Kris.

I got around to cloning the cranes out of the background of this one.

Lamp post with a view is a lovely shot, the hazy almost mono background sets off the lamps beautifully. The second alleyway shot is my pick of those shots. Nice set!

Excellent I love #2, the zig-zag trail the alley takes is great composition and the lamp post shot is also superb. lovely depth.

not so sure about #1 - the graffiti isn't the obvious focal point. I would perhaps try cropping right in and saturating the graffiti colours a little
