A few hours in Dublin

actually about 4 spread over 2 days even though I was there for a week [ most of my time was either in Church or sleeping ]

These are mainly sort of touristy things to act as memories . All taken with the K-x and the 18-250 lens . The place was jumping , there were loads of tourists around , graduation ceremonies at TCD and I really did have to snatch pics when I could - I would have it nicely framed and some b..... tourist would walk right slap bang in front of me

The problem with this one is that the pillar box really IS at an angle there's no way I can straighten this one up - just look at the collection of poles behind it - but a green pillar box just had to be taken as proof I was in Dublin

These lamp standard tops are really lovely - there seem to be several designs - some simple, some more elaborate but all show the shamrocks

Nice set of pictures, TT. The design in no. 5 is lovely, they don't make those nowadays.

You could have left a little more space at the top of no. 6, though.

have you been in phoenix park? i'm going in dublin on 2 of june, they say it's a wonderful place!

Phoenix Park - yes - saw it from the top of a Dublin Tour bus [ a green one - there are 2 sorts - one green and one red ]

Phoenix Park has lots and lots of fallow deer and they just wander about among people. There's Dublin zoo in it too , and the main road is lit by gorgeous gas lights .

It's home to the US Ambassador's Residence and also the Irish President - both houses are almost opposite each other

Thanks Terry - I'll admit I'm very pleased with that lampost - it came out better than I had dared hope - a very lucky shot from a bus !!

Agreed re #6 -- it's actually at the head of a 'pond' in the shape of a cross as part of a memorial - but I couldn't get at the far end and when I did it would have been very very 'flat'.

I actually got 208 pictures - some I'm thrilled with and others are heading for the bin - but that's photography .

The handcart is really unusual and looks interesting. Pity it wasn't somewhere without the shops in the background. The street lamp is also a very interesting piece of Victorian metalwork, probably the best I've ever seen.

The Handcart is Molly Malone - it is very interesting but of course it's in everyone's photos and the wee guy who sits there playing a drum [ his speakers are there under the cart ] is very helpful about taking photos of folk standing on the plinth - which of course makes it very hard to get a decent shot of the cart

Algi - there are many many beautiful lamposts there, also interesting bits of stonework . I've got what I could , but I've a lot of pp to be done .

A lot of the heavier cast iron metalwork in Dublin such as the bridges were made in Lancashire by the Daglish Iron Foundry (stopped trading around 1930).

Molly Malone, known locally as "the tart wi the cart"

That could look very nice painted in different colours like they do on railway stations.

This seems to be the only Dublin Bridge credited to Daglish. Strange coincidence the Daglish family are thought to be from Glascow originally.

Don't have that bridge - but I do have a not very good one of the 'Halfpenny Bridge '

Did you see that big metal 100 foot tall spike that someone's stuck in the pavement?
I nearly walked straight into that after too much Guinness.

It would make a good shot though looking straight up.

AH - THAT spike . The one that's regarded as being their Millenium 'thing' - yup I saw it and decided not to even try and take a pic of it .
