A few from the Yard

Fortunately not my yard as Mrs F would not put up with all those smokey oily things cluttering up the place!

Location is Wirksworth station at the north end of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway as we prepare for this weekends 1940's event. I am not on the footplate this weekend but have been charged with taking some suitable photos for turning into jigsaws for our shop - not the ones here, they want them in steam hauling passenger stock

Another visitor (just for this weekend) - affectionately nicknamed "Kermit" (can't think why) A Kerr Stuart 0-4-0 industrial loco built in Stoke circa 1928

Nice portraits. You don't realize how tiny the 'coal tank' is until contrasted with something more modern. Those connecting and coupling rods on Kermit are a bit odd, so is the slide bar.

It is strange to see connecting and coupling rods that have a round profile, I can only assume the works where it was built felt this was a cheaper or more effective design - certainly not one that ever took off.

The relative size of the locos is only really apparent when they are all together. The two Barclay 0-4-0 tank engines we have (currently out of service) are small compared to the Austerity's (The Duke and Morrbarrow) which in turn look small when sat against something like the Standard 4 we had running last year.
