A Feeble Review...

Or a review by Feeb, however you want to look at it

Well i FINALLY today recieved my 50-135mm. This was no fault of the lovely people at SRS where i bought it, but the fault of me for loosing my card on NYE and not managing to get a new one issued to make payments until yesterday (and i have recieved my lens today which just shows have fab SRS are )

Anyway, the K5 is a beautiful little camera, tactile and light and yummy, i like the feel of it and where all the buttons are, the lens adds alot to the weight of it but its still probably a third to a half lighter than my D700 setup.

Obviously i am not some sort of lens guru, but i can see no difference in the build quality of this lens and my Nikkor 28-70, it feels well built, its nice to hold and doesnt weigh me down too much (but thats probably because the camera is lighter, rather than the lens)

i was quite shocked with how long it takes to autofocus, but i am not a major fan of autofocus anyway, use it possibly to 'check' that its well focused but its not really a huge problem for me that its quite slow (i can see how this would be a problem for some though)

i am very much looking forward to taking the camera out when my husband wakes up, i will give a review of picture quality then

very very impressed though and glad to be rocking the pentax kit again feels gooooood

Glad that your kitted out again I had hoped that the
K-5 AF would have been faster..... possibly the lens that's slow

That lens does have a reputation for slow focus.

The only reason I sold mine .. and SDM is a lot quicker on the K-5 in comparison to previous bodies.

The DA* 55mm f1.4 is even slower.

yes, i was very, very shocked!

The 28-70 was quick sharp, so this is a bit of a step back in that respect, mind you, my Pentax K20 with 16-45 was more than three times as fast also!

Must be absolutely gutting to come back to something which is:

"NOT a professionals camera"

and

"isnt really aimed at the pro market"

and has such problems as:

"the metering with pentax is WAY off"

and which:

"doesnt cope with low light or high light to well at all IMHO"

and is:

"all about the entry level"

and regarded by Ian the tutor as a:

"study camera"

After 18 months of using real pro gear, I'd be completely devastated to be honest.

All the above to be taken light-heartedly of course...
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

You have to go back a while to when Feebs decided to change from Pentax to a Nikon D700

All I will say is that they are all accurate quotes (in that they were made on this forum, not that their content is correct).

and as said by feeb the only reason for the change back is the k5 has greatly improved over the k20 and k7, also the d700 is to big for her to carry around with a kid,
people chop and change all the time.

We all make mistakes

While some of feebs comments back then might not have been too diplomatic on a Pentax forum it's hard to argue with them, when you consider that the k5 is a vast improvement over older Pentax cameras, especially the pre k7 ones, yet the 2 year old D700 is still superior to the K5 in some areas.

Last thing I read she was starting to totally regret her move back to Pentax.

Apologies if this is backtracking a bit but I was just catching up on recent posts and this thread grabbed by attention. I was
intrigued by Robbie's (rather selective!) quotes above and this prompted me to look at Feeb's post about leaving Pentax back in Sept 09. I have to say that it is one of the most extraordinary threads I have ever seen in this forum (in a number of respects, not least the rather surreal and ultimately doomed interventions of scottthehat). Compulsive reading

Anyway, whatever happened back then I think it's great that Feeb (1) came back to Pentax and (2) returned to this forum despite the above mentioned thread Good on you.

Look forward to more postings Feeb and some K5 photos.
Cheers, Adam

Hmm,not quite sure what happened to Scott ... probably stuck on a Nikon forum somewhere with a D300 and Sigma 50-500mm.

Come on then Feebs .. I know you are reading this.

How you getting on with the combo, or aren't you?
