I like the idea and I think the paneling gives a sort of frame so I would not loose it all together.
My suggestion is more radical, it would mean retaking the shot and even then I don't even know if it's possible to achieve.
It involves lining up the shadows with the spars so that pattern continues from top to bottom uninterrupted

I know what Barrie means - I too would re-take and get an even 'frame' around the shot with those nice diagonal shadows.
That said - with the shot as it is - hope you don't mind - but this is what I would do with it
