Does anyone know what may be the cause of this.
It appears to happen in the same location but not on all photos

Well its happening on every photo recently taken in low light with any lens, but it was not there earlier today.

I take it I have a fault on the sensor :

Is it there on a Jpeg and Raw file: or is this a Jpeg, looking at the dog it looks to big for a pixel but there again could be.

Never done it myself, have you tried a pixel remap

The strange thing is that it has an aura so I would say a flare but it's strange it's always on the same location though and the black stripe in the middle

Is your camera working better now Jon, your last photo didn't look so good

Strange, as Stefan says it doesn't look like an individual pixel fault, more like a group of pixels. Was that crop 100% or bigger/blown up?

Most image editors will give you the location of your mouse relative to the photo so you can find out if it trully is on the same spot.
If it is and it is on every shot you take under various conditions it should be the sensor. A group of faulty pixels isn't acceptable so contact Pentax about it and see what they say.

edit:typo

Why contact Pentax?
If it was mine I would be straight back to the dealer, they should be able to explain it and if it's a fault then replace the camera.

The software is V1.01.

It is in the same place every time, or was, until I tried pixel mapping and then it changed to that funny line.

The images shown are 100% crop.

I have had another play this morning and tried the custom image settings and different ISO's took the d-range off, basically every setting that may have an effect the image processing.

It is there on every image no mater what the conditions, even low level light, so cannot be lens flare. I have also tried different lenses ranging from 1970's fully manual to a new Pentax DA......

Looks like I will have to send it back. I only ordered it on 29/12/08 and got it on the 5th of Jan.

It happens sometimes, even Pentax get a duff one.
The only consolation is my experience with Pentax Service is very good I rate them 1st class.
Lets all know how you get on?
And I hope you get the service I had with them.
Best of luck

If so i am sure they would replace without question, but if someone like a PLC (you know who) I doubt it.
