Never used the Sigma so can't comment on it but I've had the Tokina ATX-Pro 80-200 F2.8 for many years, using it on film and digital, and I think it's an excellent lens. Build quality is superb (it's built like a tank) and optically I've had no complaints, including when used with a 7-element 2x TC.

I wrote a review of it a few years back (see http://www.geocities.com/niblue/atx80_200.html) plus there are quite a few shots taken with it on my pbase gallery http://www.pbase.com/niblue

Thx for the replies

Nice to hear, and read

And it's still good when used with a 2x TC ?
'cause that was the idea

How much do they cost from new, used ?

The main problem might be finding one, new or used. New I think they'd be in the region of £600-700 - 2nd hand then perhaps as much as 1/2 tp 2/3rds of the new price given the scarcity of these lenses.

I have Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX DG on the front of my IST D - I regularly use it with a 2x TC and absolutely love the lens.

Obviously it's nicer without the tc, but still great with.

I got mine brand new from EBay (from Hong Kong)

Would you say its better w/ TC 2x than the sigma 135-400 af 400 mm ??

can't say for sure that IQ will be better - however it's definitely more flexible - as you can take the TC off and have f2.8 out to 200m - which the longer lens can't do

I've been pleased with the results when using my 80-200 F2.8 with a 2x TC especially given I'm mostly using it hand-held and therefore usually close to wide open.

could anyone please sell on on ebay, or maybe a hundred, so there's a chance for everybody to get one. (that is me, cause i'm a bit slow)
