645N focusing screens

I am considering trying out manual focus lenses on my 645N. For this I will need a split-image spot with microprism collar focusing screen (as was fitted in the original 645).

Has anyone here tried this?
Will it effect spot metering readings?
Will it effect focus with autofocus lenses?
Any idea where I might be able to purchase one?

Why am I thinking of doing this? Well manual focus A series lenses are noticeably more affordable than FA autofocus. The catch is that my eyesight is not as sharp as it once was. I have found that the green light focus confirmation indicator is not always spot on in my K-5 so would prefer to verify focus with the combination of a split prism and microprism.

Any information would be gratefully received. Very many thanks.

Big thanks to LennyBloke who pointed me to Fforbes who had exactly what I was looking for at a good price. They confirmed that it will work with the 645N so order placed and am looking forward to the reassurance of seeing the split-screen microprism collar when I next look into the viewfinder.

Just in-case anyone reads this with a view to fitting the 645 split-image spot with microprism collar focusing screen to their 645N, I can confirm that sadly the two are not compatible. Fforbes have been very good about it and accepted the return.

That's a shame (and a surprise). What kind of screen do you have now?

I have a 645 screen for sale now, but it's for the original 645, so I suppose it won't fit either.

Hi Jonathan

Indeed it is a pity. I have since noticed on BH website link that Note! These screens DO NOT fit the newer 645n. Different screens required. The screen on my 645N is the standard matt screen which gives an indication of focus points. It is very bright so perhaps when coupled with the green focus indicator it will suffice, but as you know, I won't need to worry about that if I stay with FA lenses!

There seems to be a different profile for the 645N focus screen, with a tab to the side as well as front. I have found a source for split image type of screen in HongKong at $HK525, so all is not lost if I find I really do need one. link
