It does say in the manual that the FTZ flashes should autozoom when using a FA lens.
Just tried the 330FTZ on my 645n. Have you selected the speed dial to X? It will not autozoom on the A setting.
The manual for the 645n ia available on my website. Look at pages 62-66

set it to X and it stayed at 35mm, since my 75mm FA is a single focal length I can manually zoom it !! my zoom lens is manual focus and won;t be using a flash with it and I did have the flash in the A zoom mode !!

The 35mm is the setting for 35mm. In other words probably right for both the 55 and 75mm lens on the 645.

while we are on the subject of the 645n , is it bad to leave the power switch on I'm worried about the switch breaking or wearing out !!

I wouldn't leave it on. It is designed as a "Pro" camera. The MZ series were a bit plasticky and prone to failure but I've not heard of a 645 breaking.

On the FGZ flashes, you can set them so they display the "lens setting" for APS, 35mm FF, 645 or 6x7. The flash coverage depends on angle of view rather than focal length. As the format size increases, the angle of view of a particular focal length will effectively widen as it has to cover a bigger sensor.
So the 75mm lens on the 645 is the same angle of view as 50mm on FF and 35mm on APS. The FTZ were made before the APS camera so default to the equivalent lens on 35mm FF.

The 500FTZ predates the MZ-series by several years, but the 645n was a few years after... the flashes (330 and 500) came out with the Z-series cameras in 1991... nothing amateur about the Z-1
