The first two are not crtivcally sharp to me, but the third one is and is a really good shot.

Thanks John, I take your point on the Woodpecker so I had a look through some of my other shots and found this Robin which I think is a better example. To be fair to the Woodpecker it was shot through my kitchen double glazing

I do like the robin, the overall rendition of the picture seems better than my Tamron 70-300 is capable of but it's difficult to tell without shooting both lenses back-to-back. Nice capture though, the focus on his eye is spot on!

Thanks for that Hefty, since wer'e both Bucks based a back to back is not beyond the realms of possibility and would be of great interest to many on the forum no doubt. Worth thinking about at least :
(Incidentally the rest of the gear is a *ist DL2 plus a load of lenses, bodies, film, tubes................)

As John mentions the 1st too don't look 100% sharp, the other 2 look very nice..
The colour/contrast rendition of the 55-300 is something I'm very pleased with - this is one of the weaker areas of the Tamron 70-300 imho

Out of all the shots the Robin has to be my favourite. Not only for sharpness, but composition and vibrancy of colour. A good shot from another local!

Tell you what, we'll have a squint at the Herald on Wednesday and see if there's anything coming up that merits a little field trip - there's bound to be something on at this time of year surely? I'm still saving for my 31 so I might have to play with someone else's if one should turn up...?
