50mm performance

I see another Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 has just been sold for slightly more than the cost of a new Pentax 50mm f/1.8 (all plastic) Will the new lens perform better than the old one (I paid £2 in a club auction for mine around 199x ?) I was thinking of buying the new lens and if I can make a profit and get better quality maybe it's time to "upgrade", although I seldom use the 50mm.

Why bother selling a lens you don't use in order to buy another lens that you probably won't use much after the first week of ownership?

It makes more sense to me to sell the lens you don't use and put the money towards something you will use.

Some thoughts on the new DA 50mm would be appreciated.

I can't imagine any lens bettering the Pentax F

I totally agree

In that case I'd probably be selling all my lenses except the 18-135mm which is rarely off the camera. Mrs Snap says "Sounds like a good idea to me"

I have the FA and it's great. I would be very surprised indeed if the new DA has different optics. The coatings may be different but other than that it's just more plastic and has no aperture ring.

I really liked the DA50mm and the only reason I got rid because I had the F 50mm 1.4 and the 1.4 just had the speed advantage but I actually preferred the bokeh from the DA50.

You can see some comparisons and shots in this set
