Don,
There are two AF versions of the 1:1.4 50mm.
One is an SMCP-F, the other an SMCP-FA. They are optically the same, and quite superb.
If you can get either variety for $50.00, do so. Assuming it's in good condition, of course. I paid just under GBP100 for mine (an F), so 50 Canookian bucks is a very low price.

As far as I know, all the 50mm f/1.4 lenses are the same optical design. The difference is in the controls and electronics, but they are all considered one of the finest lenses ever made!

they changed M series to A series, the A series and later ones are better than the M series (or so I have read). As far as I know, all the 50mm f/1.4 lenses are the same optical design. The difference is in the controls and electronics, but they are all considered one of the finest lenses ever made!
Don, you don't want that piece of junk, it will just take up too much space in your kit bag. I'm coming over to Canada in a few weeks, since I'm feeling kind I'll give you your $50 back for it
seriously mate, snap it up!!!!!!

The basic optical design is the same for all the 50/1.4s (7 elements in 6 groups), but there is supposed to be a slight difference between M and A. I don't have an M to compare, but my Super-Tak definitely seems to have a different optical quality to the A and FA. Not necessarily worse, just different. I can't see any difference between the A and FA optically.Arthur Dent wrote:

Of the autofocus variants, the FA has a much nicer build and manual focus feel than the earlier F. SRS here in the UK have the FA listed at £165 new (though I don't know if they have any stock). Either is a bargain at $50.
Lets hope your seller doesn't read this forum...

PS I'll match Mongoose's $50 and raise you $10.

I got my A 50/1.4 from Matt here on the forum and if the F and FA 50/1.4 has the same optical formula as my A...Go get one!

I've not seen an af 1.4 before, didn't realize it existed.
I have an m 1.4 and never really bothered to look for an af version till I saw this one for $50, and I'm thinking when did yhey come out with THAT?
