50-135mm 2.8 with faulty Af

Does the AF not work at all?
I've heard of 70-200 f2.8 lens where you have to fiddle with the AF/MF button- if you push it fully over it doesn't work so you have to push it 90% or thereabouts over and it works fine

I had this same issue on this lens, worked fine with screw-drive (tested on MZ5n), cost £120 for repare at Johnsons - works a treat now - better than before!
