Sue would like a longer lens so I guess it will need to be 400mm or longer. AF or MF, open mind on manufacturer, anything on offer out there?
Best regards, John

You're just a bit too late for my SMCP 400mm 5.6, sold it to a forum member.

The Sigma 400mm 5.6 is much lighter than the Pentax lens.

Just kidding John, I'm presuming it's down to lack of affordable telephoto options in the Pentax armoury.

We don't know yet if she's going to stick with bird photography so this lens will be to see how it goes. If she gets serious then you know which lenses I'll be looking for second hand.

Sorry to shock you Dan!
Best regards, John

I had a look at that 2nd one myself but something didnt ring true about it.
Bidding @ £395 for a lens that usually sells for £250 max used.
I think the seller is bumping the price up and would expect to see it relisted in a week or 2.

You could always go for the DA*300 with the 1.7 adapter!....or a cheaper way would be to stick with the 400 and go on a course of "creeping up" lessons!........I'm free most weekends!....

John, I have a Tokina 400 f5.6 M/F which is boxed as new. I think I used it a dozen times max. Is that of any use ? I have no idea what its worth. No doubt Kris has some stats on what they have been fetching.

PS, I also have a Tokina 80-200 f2.8 M/F which may be ok if used with a 2X converter. This would still give 400 f5.6 but you would probably loose some I/Q. Just a thought.
