35mm limited problem or normal?

Firstly, I did some low light close up pics and my 35mm limited seems to be doing what I think is focus seeking. The motor was like zzzzzz..(quick stop)..zz(quick stop)..zz..beep.
Most of the AF movement was done in the long zzzzzz but from the VF, I can tell the focus is almost there but not quite there. After the first zz, the lens almost overshot the perfect focus and then comes back to correct position in the last zz. Movement was very minute and the effect seen in the VF is very small but detectable nevertheless.
I thought Phase detect AF was supposed to just guide the lens to the correct position so this double checking is a kinda new to me. Is it normal? Should I be worried?

Also, the built-in hood seems to have a bit of play. When I slide it fully out, it can sort of wobble about 1-2 degrees if I push it on the side which feels quite alarming considering the rest of the lens is built like a tank. The lens almost gives me the impression that everything should feel like a solid steel tube, if you know what I mean. Can someone please help me confirm if I'm just being paranoid or something is indeed wrong with the hood?

Cheers.

All my Pentax lenses tend to get to "about right" and then do one or two smaller adjustments to get it spot on (or what the camera thinks is spot on anyway ). If this is what yours is doing I'd guess it's normal behaviour.

Your first few words may give a clue, "low light", lenses will hunt for the correct focus point in low light. And also if you were moving the cam at all it will hunt, because you may be moving its point of focus, it.s happened to me don't worry.

The double-checking of focus can be switched off in some Pentax bodies to enable quicker (but less accurate) AF. All macro lenses will hunt to a greater degree than non-macro lenses as the focus throw is so much longer, having said that the DA35 is usually pretty quick by macro standards.

As for the hood, there has to be some gap between hood and barrel or it wouldn't be able to slide up and down. The "wobble" is most noticeable when the hood is fully extended but makes no difference to operation - the FA77 Limited uses the same system and behaves in exactly the same way too.

Your lens sounds like it's just fine and dandy.

Cheers all! Guess I was just too paranoid. First few days and I have already loved the lens so much. I hope this will be THE replacement of my favourite Micro Four Third lens (the 20mm f1.7).

@hefty1: OMG I'm jealous of all your limited!!!
