I have a 1972 lens with the threaded fitting. I want to purchase a suitable DSLR body and adapter and would appreciate some advice on which camera to purchase. Thanks.

Any modern Pentax K mount camera will suffice, with a M42 adapter.

Just read up on the adapters; some can get stuck in the camera. Original Pentax one is always a safe bet (if they still exist).

Super Takumar 300/4 plus K10D

It's a heavy combo; and you will battle a bit with the tripod collar when (un)mounting the lens. This is because on dSLRs the built-in flash is in the way.

I'm not quite familiar with the current Pentax line-up; a camera with focus peeking (or whatever it is called) can be an advantage. If I'm not mistaken, the K30 has it; not sure about the K5 models.

There are M42 adaptors for many camera brands, so you're not necessarily limited to Pentax.
