I would guess that Tokina are licensed to provide their lenses in Nikon and canon mount, but that Pentax mount versions are out of bounds and exclusive to Pentax themselves.

since a large part of Tokina's lineup is currently co-developed with Pentax, I'd be willing to bet the deal is Pentax make it in KAF, Tokina make it in everything else they see fit.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

The bit I don't get is if they are co-developed, and the glass used is presumably from Hoya, how come the canikon crowd get them months before we do?

Still waiting for that DA* 11-16 you know!

Might be who puts in the biggest order first.

Maybe Pentax are letting the production bugs work themselves out before producing theirs.
Or maybe it's not that much of a collaboration as we thought. Tokina might design & produce the lens & send it to Pentax who then reverse engineer it into a K mount & weatherproof construction.

Reverse engineering is taking something apart to see how it works and then making your product to interface with it. That doesn't sound like the way two commonly-owned companies would operate.

The collaboration between Tokina and Pentax and indeed Tamron and Pentax probably works in many ways on many levels. Expertise from both companies can be combined to their mutual benefit.

One feature I really like that has come out of all this is the mechanism for manual focus tweaking whilst in AF mode. Very useful. I wonder who thought of it.
Best regards, John
