2x converter trouble

Hi all this is my first post as i'm new to the site and photography. Anyway my problem is i have a pentax k-r and i,ve bought a vivitar mc tele converter it has a pentax k fitment and fits well all looks ok through viewfinder and on liveview but the photo comes out very very dark

did you meter using the green button ?

Hi when using a teleconverter your Aperture will be doubled, so if you are shooting at f/8 the teleconverter will make it f/16. You will as a result loose a lot of light when using a teleconverter. A few tips that may help!

Use the fastest lens you have when using the teleconverter
experiment by over exposing your images when using a teleconverter

Agreed,
Remember Bikerrout that the viewfinder and live view show you the image at maximun (i.e. brightest) aperture. When you take the shot you lens will stop down to the selected aperture, thus giving you a darker image.
