28-200 lens

I have the FA 28-200mm lens. It is a good walkabout lens on a film body but it is the equivelant of 42-300mm on a digital body which is less than ideal.
The IQ of the Pentax lens is adequate, but not stella. Manual focus is difficult too because of the short travel of the focussing ring.
If they're cheap enough, I'd recommend you try both. You can always sell the one you don't want to keep.

AF is quick, though, on the FA, for the same reason.Manual focus is difficult too because of the short travel of the focussing ring.
I've been very pleased with mine, and not having an 18-250, I occasionally still take it out if I can only carry one lens.

I'd say the Pentax version will always be better than the Tamron.

As far as I know the FA28-200 is the rebranded version of earlier Tamron design.
I used to have Tamron 28-200 Xr Di (IF).
Not a bad lens. Fairly compact, with adequate IQ and good zoom range. Build was on the lever of kit lenses. AF pretty fast in good light. In lower light the lens struggled. Not just with AF but it's aperture range 3.8 (28mm) to 5.6 (200) didn't allow for much indoor flashless shooting. As well it's only 200 when focused to infinity! Focusing closer you are loosing some focal length since it's IF "megazoom" (though I believe the FA28-200 is the same in this respect).
All in all it wasn't bad lens, but I don't miss it.

if al & the other is a tamron xr di wich is the better lens advice please
