Good luck... but I'd suspect if anyone got grumpy with them about "worldwide warrantees" which actually mean "return to country of origin", they will just turn round, laugh, and ask you where you expect to be able to sue them - the UN?

I've got nothing against grey importing lenses - but you have to add the potential cost of paying for a repair into the price, if it still ends up cheaper than buying locally, then do it. Otherwise its not worth it for a marginal saving...

70% plus of my kit is grey or foreign sourced. To date, nothing has gone boobs up. As I said previously, my Nikon kit IS covered world wide. Maybe Pentax UK wont accept this and yet charge premium prices compared to the USA and Middle East. Odd world we live in. Some benefit, some don't.

From the Nikon UK website.

Nikon digital products (cameras) sold in Europe have a warranty which is honoured by Nikon European offices in the countries listed below. This warranty is not supported by Nikon offices outside of Europe. Nikon digital products sold outside Europe also have localised warranties and are not supported in Europe.

Think lenses have worldwide warranty though.

AFAIK aren't Pentax the same?

Its on board.

I bought my D700 in the UK at RGB.

My lenses were bought abroad at roughly 2/3 the UK price and have global warranty.

When I bought the body, RGB were the cheapest UK retailer of the D700 body.

But it's only a grey import right if you buy a camera for the USA market in the EU for example, if you buy an USA camera in an USA shop than it's not a grey import right?
if you use it outside the USA, yes it is - that's why its called "grey" - its not black (illegal) or white (locally distributed)...its somewhere in between.
You sure?
I believed it's a grey import if a shop in the UK sells products for the USA market but if you buy USA product at an USA store it's white.

If like you said is true you would have a problem when you're on holiday because all you products suddenly become grey imports... there goes your warranty

If a shop in the UK sells a product which was originally intended for the US market, and they got it from somewhere other than the official distributor in the UK it is Grey.

The distributor/manufacturer knows this from teh serial number on the item.

Sigma (and others) also regard as grey lenses you have purchased personally outside the EU and have not declared to customs, either on return from holiday, or when you import the item when you move to the EU.

If you purchase something outside the EU then the EU consumer protection laws, and guarantees do not apply. It is up to the importer/manufacturer in the EU to decide whether to honour a guarantee or not.

Reading the EU warranty, it does say get the dealer's stamp on the warranty and take it with you if you travel abroad. I infer that you can then get it repaired when not at home.
Lurking is shirking.!
