Hi- I would consider this lens- but the marks and part missing in the lens hood deter me.....

Hi Simonmac, the marks don't seem to affect anything, and I've been using the lens professionally for awhile now. It takes very sharp images - pretty much anything recent on my website that's wide angle was shot with it if you fancy looking through davidxgreen.com
otherwise, yes, there's a little piece missing from the lens hood, which will only matter if the sun catches it right there. I just about never use hoods myself.
I can understand your hesitation though. However, I did read once that you can put a postage stamp in the middle of some lenses and it won't even show up. the more mechanically inclined among you might understand that one (I don't but half believe it).

I've used this lens for years, takes excellent professional photos, very sharp, so as near as I've ever been able to tell the cleaning marks or scratches or however they got there (previous owner) on the lens don't affect picture quality at all. (see photos) Comes with both caps and the lens hood, which is missing the little bit as you can see in the pics.
The lens is super-light-weight, AF is excellent.
