16-45 wobble

I've just noticed a millimetre or two of free play, to the left and upwards, in the front section of my DA 16-45 if I touch it. It centres itself after the pressure is released and doesn't seem to affect the quality of images. Is this normal?

The lens is a couple of years old, relatively lightly used and hasn't been banged. It sits in a holster bag attached to my GX20 and there could be some small pressure on the front of the lens from the bottom of the bag.

I haven't noticed this before, but then again I'm not the most observant of people. Any comments would be appreciated.

Some of the AF lenses do seem quite "loose" compared to the primes of yesteryear. The 24-90mm and 16-45mm are two examples of this. Quality does not seem to be an issue, as these are two excellent lenses.

The difficulty lies in what we mean by "play" as it can't be conveyed easily in a forum. If it doesn't seem excessive (another delightfully vague term) then as image qulaity is not affected I'd just keep an eye on it and not worry too much.

If at some time you get the opportunity to see another example of the lens then you'll be able to compare them.
Best regards, John

The DFA100 also wobbles a lot
The DA*16-50 is surprisingly stable for his design, so was the DA 18-250.

Not very helping but well it's not a DA16-45 thing alone at least.

I have had a couple of 16-45mm lenses and they both had a little play in them.

Nothing to worry about.

Many thanks, chaps. I'll sleep more easily now. I noticed the "play" during a visit with friends in Spain and the overdose of Cruzcampo's finest lager may have heightened my senses.

Mine wobbles as well, It's a bit of a bind when you are shooting set to manual focus. But I still like this lens a lot

Same again - good lens, and yes the front (inner) section of mine 'wobbles' too.
