150-500 Focusing Problems/Sigma Service

Hey all, I took a punt on a cheap 150-500, it was advertised as for parts not working. Cosmetically its spot on, the focus problem is a little irritating to say the least, it will focus perfectly at all focal lengths in the living room and back yard, but anything further away it just chucks a spaz and wont focus.
Anyone else had this?
The plan has was always to send it back to Sigma for a fix/service anyone had any experience of their service centre?

The thing works perfectly at 150 at all distances. But zoom out some and it chucks a spaz!

I had a similar problem with my 120-400. I had it repaired by Sigma, and was pleased with their service; I think the process took about 10 days. They replaced the MR Sensor [whatever that is].

I had the same thing with my 50-500mm OS, like Rob it said they had replaced the MR board .... (whatever that is)

Yeah I was looking at that, filled out a returns for, just waiting to hear back from Alan Marlow before I send it off.

Recently had a 100-300mm repairs by sigma for the tariff stated they replaced the mount, outer body, af system and recall rated it all like new.

Didn't pay until the job was done and was returned via Royal Mail special delivery, always important to me as I live nowhere near any courier pick up points.

Alan Marlowe also recently repaired my tamron 400mm f/4 excellent service and speed and serviced it too, it's never been so sharp.

For me I would choose sigma because I prefer manufacturer service provisions who should have access to all parts.

I was just about to post the same .... it's quite a big job and although I have always recommended Alan for lens repairs (he must have had loads of work off my recommendations) on this occasion I would let Sigma handle it. To be honest I think their charges are pretty fair.

The £131.99 tariff also includes £25ish rmsd and vat so is especially good value for the work involved, I was well impressed with my sigma when it came back from them...

Sent my 100-300 F4 back last year for a check-up - nothing found wrong and all they charged me was the basic Tariff 1 £37.99 for a recalibrate job, and then return by RMSD.

That included a couple of chats with the technician before he did the cal work.

So no beefs there!

OTOH, DHL "lost" the bloody thing on the way to Sigma and only "found it again" when I told that it had actually arrived at Sigma about a week after despatch. (they did refund the carriage charge however, after I complained)

£132 sound very reasonable, I've just been quoted £180 ex VAT from JPS to repair my DA*16-50 which is only 18 months old
