135mm prime comparison

I recently picked up a Takumar bayonet 135 2.5. Its not in the best of shape with a bit of fungus on every element. Fortunately i didn't pay very much for it as the seller point blank refused to refund.
But the results still seem quite nice. Certainly better than the Prinzflex 135 2.8 i was using. Hopefully i'll get something worth posting over the Easter break and post them up here.

I feel guilty saying this as my SMC K135/2.5 doesn't get used much, but I think it is one of those few 'special' lenses whose rendering transcends technical qualities like colour and resolution. If you find one rip it out of the seller's hands - and no, you can't have mine

I keep an eye out for one but they go for far too much money. Will have to be patient and wait for someone Ebay who has no idea what they are selling.

Average selling price is about $200. Reasonable is almost impossible to define.

Reasonable I would say is average buying price. $200 sounds a reasonable asking to me. I'd sell mine for that.

A couple of years ago they were selling for close to £150 for a very good copy, now it is much closer to £100 (or less in some cases)
I think Gwing hit the nail on the head when he said it is one of those few special lenses - if you're a manual focus fan then this is one to keep

Blimey. I am a manual focus fan and it is a lovely lens. But I just don't use it. The 100macro, the 50-135 are the ones usually called upon to do a job. I think I'd better hang on to it until prices go back up.

What's it got that the cheapo M135/3.5 doesn't have - beside the extra one stop ? Is it actually useable at f2.5 ?
