'New' Pentax ME Super Owner

So, hi everyone!

Over the bank holiday weekend I decided to take the plunge into the world of film - picked up an ME Super with the 50mm f1.7 (is that how you should write that?? Naming conventions are still a bit baffling!) as well as a Cosina Cosinon 28mm f2.8 (wide angle) and an Ozeck 135mm f2.8. Various old films, filters and a 2x tele converter also. Hopefully enough to get me started anyway!!

I enjoy taking photos, but have recently realised that an awful lot of the pictures I take, and for some reason still keep, are dreadful, not even worth keeping to 'capture the memory'. I was probably in a bit of a philosophical mood, but decided that it must be because storage is so abundant, and that film would be a way to get back to taking a picture worth taking by spending some time on each picture etc... that and I just love the look of the older film cameras!

Currently most of the way through a very out of date film that came with the camera and intrigued to see how well (badly!) things turn out - my expectations aren't too high given the 8 years since the film expired!

I've got a number of 'newb' questions rattling around, but I'll save those for new threads perhaps.

I too have an ME Super which still gets used on occassion.

Welcome. I also find using film improves my photography. You might want to set the ISO considerably lower for that film, it will be less sensitive than it was originally.

Hi both, thanks for the welcome - I'm excited to get started with my first 'proper' camera as a Pentax (not my first Pentax though, that's a beat up W10 that's still going after at least five years of 'active' lifestyle! :mrgreen

thanks for the tip Jonathan - it's ISO200, difficult to say I guess but should I be looking to set it around 64? Lower perhaps?

It's impossible to say. That far out of date, probably improperly stored... I'd say ISO 64 is as good a starting point as any. I'll be interested to see your results anyway.

Also have an ME Super with 50mm and 150 mm lens. A super camera and excellent lens on which to learn and improve your skills. Filters, depth of focus,etc are easier to employ than my latest K-r digital. Any use offering to help?

Two years later, maybe that first roll didn't come out as hoped...

I started with an ME super. You also might like to try a P30. They are horrendously underrated simply because they look plasticky and so you can get them for peanuts on EBay. The results are anything but peanuts and, like the ME it feels nice to hold.
