*ist-DS white balance problem

Cheers to all...I'm just joining and have a question.

I've been noticing that in low-light situations (indoor available light), my images seem to have a overly yellow cast. I can correct white balance in Photoshop and they look fine.

I seem to remember seeing this posted in another forum as an issue that Pentax was addressing. Does anyone have any knowledge of this ? I am on firmware 2, but cannot remember if this happened on the prior version or not. Also, recently started shooting in RAW mode and don't recall if it happened in JPG mode or not...I could do some benchmarks, I suppose.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you mean artifiial light?

Tungsten light is yellow/red compared to daylight and it fal;ls outside the range of the Auto White balance. So you need to set the white balance to Tungsten and all will be well.

It isn't a fault, just the colour of the light you are using.

In RAW you are using the raw output from the CCD without any corrections, so you set the white balance with the colour temperature slider. Which RAW converter are you using?

It might be an idea to stick with JPEG until you are more familiar with the processes involved?
Best regards, John

Thanks, John for the tips. I'll look the manual over a little closer...I hadn't made the connection between RAW and no AWB.

I'll play with the WB settings and see what makes sense.

Thanks
