*ist DL2 shut down

My daughter's *istDL2 just won't switch on. Was working perfectly until a couple of days ago. She went to use it and it won't switch on. Have changed batteries, cleaned contacts and have even used a new SD card on the offchance it would make a difference.
Any suggestions before paying for a repair or, more likely, binning it?

What batteries are you using? Had same problem with my *istDS. Changed from AA to CR-V3 Lithium and it worked fine. Apparently AA are for back-up only and should not be used for extended periods of time!

Tried both , Tony, no difference. Completely dead.

Problem seems to be solved, at least temporarily.
Tried the rechargeable NiMH from my grip and the DL2 is working again.
